April Updates!
Singing, theatre, turkey legs and more!
Hello gorgeous!
In like a lion, out like a lamb? Please? For morale?
Spring is here and I am once again doing A Lot! Play stuff! Art stuff! Job stuff! Graphic designery! I hope you’re ready, because in March I got to it and April will only be worse!
And that’s an Alex guarantee :) Here we go!

Queen City Black Market!
Studio Updates
NEW STICKERS!!

Because I am woman and in addition to paying the price and doing anything (if I have to)* I ALSO yearn for a charcuterie board.

Sexy new website? Yes!
I’ve been feeling the New Website Itch for a minute now but seeing Ken Lauren (graphic designer on their graphic design podcast, Kelliot) talks about “sometimes you decide a rebrand has to happen right now” (paraphrased) sealed the deal. Also, Kel’s website is SO cute. Viva 2000’s flash games style and I WANT IT and once I learned it’s just a Squarespace site I knew I had to get a grip and redo my own.
Is mine literally at all similar? Not at all but thank you sooo much for asking (the artist is afraid of losing work because her website doesn’t look “ professional “ enough lol).
Anyway I WAS brave enough to get my little acting section set up! Go click around on there and tell me if you like my new headshots!
(Theoretically there’s also a whole ~writing~ section I may or may not have pre-built for when I actually get my Book Stuff together but nobody go looking for it yet!)
Outside the Studio
So you know how the girlies online say “I will succeed because I am insane” WELL.
Sometimes. Sometimes a beautiful woman has to aim Very High and BE LOUD and actually gets the opportunity and then you get to jump in with both feet (my favorite way to try things!!).
See if you spot what I’m talking about on thisee here flyer :)

Local stylings of local singer ME? Oh, yes, babe. The rumors are true.
Did I remember to take ANY photos or videos? No. But I DID IT and it was WONDERFUL and I want to do it again!
And thankfully Abby from Prism/Witchlight was kind enough to send over the ones they took!

Midnight Oil Updates

Turkey leg in progress!
Rehearsals have been so much fun! I requested some pretty obscure (non-plot-necessary) props, though, and decided making them myself would be the easiest bet!
If you’ve been here long enough, you know I’ve got a bit of a background in making fake food especially! By the end, the paper-mache thumb you see above will hopefully look a lot more like a real turkey leg.
At least from twenty feet away!

I also contributed some quick color likenesses of our thieving elderly aunts for the poster and playbill contest, merging my assets with those of the other winning entry for the design contest the theatre group held.

Poster. Title lettering and game pieces courtesy of Sydney Keyser.
And the alternate version with my lettering made the playbill!

I also submitted for an audition this month, and recorded my first song for my musical theatre reel!

Maybe I forgot to take an actual nice picture and had to use one mid song

chalk sign at the new job!
The new day job has been so much fun! I’m training the ice cream crew tomorrow, and we’ll be opening up the week after Easter. I’m so excited to get better at chalk lettering too! Yesterday I made my first shakes and sundaes to confirm how my manager likes them done (six scoops!) and grabbed a sneak peek of the Cookie Crumble sundae:

Oh yes.
Queen City Black Market was also amazing! While I wasn’t vending this time, I did get the joy of dropping a ton of cash on local artists!
We did also have to say goodbye to Trixie girl this month. She lived to be sixteen, and was the sweetest up until the very end. It was an honor to be a part of her final year of performances, we’re grateful for the time we had together.
I only wish we’d had more of it.

I’m finishing up this newsletter before heading out to train the new ice cream recruits, and will be keeping that motto as the centerpiece of my training points. Also, if you signed up to receive a surprise in the mail as a part of my guerrilla marketing efforts for the play, those are going out on Monday!
And that’s all for now!
Catch ya next time,
Alex :)
